The Flip Side

Two siblings, raised side by side,
Same family, same values, yet different lives.
One shines bright, a beacon of hope,
A pillar of strength, a community scope.

The other struggles, lost in addiction’s night,
A path of darkness, a desperate plight.
Their choices, not circumstances, define,
The direction of life, the path that’s divine.

We can’t blame our past, our parents, or our place,
For the decisions we make, the choices we face.
We have the power to choose, to forge our fate,
To rise above, to overcome, to create.

One sibling honors their upbringing’s foundation,
Building a life of purpose, a brighter creation.
The other chooses a different route, a path untold,
Leading to shadows, a story yet unfold.

It’s not about how we’re raised, but the choices we make,
The values we adopt, the habits we undertake.
We can’t change our past, but we can shape our fate,
Choose to rise, to overcome, to create.
