Suicide and depression are the two topics that I can really resonate with most of my life
We all know that deep, dark, low moments:
don’t pick favorites.
It doesn’t matter how wealthy a person is.
It doesn’t matter how famous a person is.
It doesn’t matter how beautiful their family is.
It doesn’t matter how much they smile.
It doesn’t matter how put-together they seem:
because it is often those who are holding it together the best outwardly:
that are falling to pieces inwardly.
Not always.
But often.
There are those who prop their lives up in a certain way:
so that no one would ever know or suspect.
And there are many in the depths of depression and despair who daily hear the whisper:
“Everyone would just be better off without me.”
This world needs your presence: not your absence.
Because when you’ve been to the bottom and climbed your way back up:
you often worry that there are others stuck down there too.
Face down on the floor.
Music blaring in the car.
Trying to feel something:
but feeling far too heavy to move or even breathe.
Staring at the wall.
Crying in the bathroom.
Drowning in secret.
Then stepping out into the world and spending time with their loved ones:
like everything is fine.
I’ve always been very aware of the affects of Suicide and those left behind:
due to some of my family background.
And when I read another case of it in the news, another heartbreaking story,
I always feel this prompting to write about it.
Because we all have low, low moments.
Regardless of our backgrounds.
Regardless of our faith.
Regardless of our family.
Regardless of our finances.
Regardless of our friends.
Regardless of the way we function so flawlessly well within society.
Jesus said in John 10:10:
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Don’t let those momentary thoughts in the low moments: steal the rest of what God has in store for your life here:
because I promise there is still more for you.
and I know that each heartbeat, each breath is a gift:
even on the hardest and darkest of days.
This world needs your presence:
not your absence.
Never ever forget that.
