Eat to Live NOT Live to Eat

Food is meant to nourish our bodies not for us to kill ourselves with the food.

I had a taste of how it feels like not being able to move, or speak. And the last thing I want is to eat myself to a heart attack or stroke.

At my heaviest, I weighed 132kgs – which was just 3 years ago. I did not give a damn about my diet – breakfast was nasi lemak from Old Town Kopitiam, tea was buns, both sweet and savoury, then lunch was chap farn (2 polystrene containers full!!!), then tea was carbonara and dinner was all carbs and red meat. In between were endless snacking, bubble teas, and needless to say, fast food – nuggets, fries, pizza. I think I was easily consuming 4k – 5k calories a day then.

Then I decided to make a complete diet overhaul beginning with intermittent fasting and cutting out all carbs and sugar. I lost till my lowest 2 years ago at 80kgs. Then the weight piled back on gradually. No excuses except personal blame for falling back to poor eating habits.

And another random thought is that, I hated fish my whole life but now every morning when I wake up, it’s a portion of steamed cod or salmon as protein and vegetables, together with a portion of apple or guava. No more doing 3 apples and 10 bananas as I realised even 1 small banana has a whooping 90 calories!!

I reflected on my diet when she asked, “The calories must be coming from somewhere…” I didn’t think I eat much, which I don’t actually do during main meals but it’s all the snacking and in-betweens that I think it’s just small and negligible – but accumulation of it makes up for everything.

No way I’m eating my way to a heart attack or stroke. Better change now before it’s too late.

I’m proud to say that I’m below 95kgs now. This morning was 94kgs to be exact.

Thank you for the stark and poignant reminder.

Random note:

Mirra Eats is actually not bad for someone who’s extremely sensitive to taste, sound and smell. I don’t usually eat the carbs given although it’s not refined carbs but the variety and food is quite tasty and flavourful. Even for a vegan place which I most often don’t even realise I’m eating vegan food! And best part is, I don’t have to count calories with My Fitness Pal and take the hassle of logging in whatever I’m eating as I’m assured whatever I’m eating is within 400-600 calories/meal. Awesome solution indeed! 🙂
